Cristiano Ronaldo: Man City offered chance to sign Juventus forward

Manchester City has been offered the chance of signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus.
Juventus wants to sell Ronaldo because he is out of contract in the summer.

Ronaldo is open to leaving and Jorge Mendes, Ronaldo's agent, has been searching for clubs that will pay Ronaldo a 25m transfer fee and continue his wages.

City is interested in Ronaldo returning to the Premier League as a free transfer. They are prepared to offer him a contract for two years with a salary of 12.8m per season (15m), according Sky in Italy.

Juventus wants at least 21.4m (25m), as a transfer fee, and no formal offer has yet been made.

City is happy with what they did this summer, having signed Jack Grealish at 100m. Pep Guardiola would love to continue the season without signing any additional players.

He feels his squad is stronger than last season's champions. However, City are still willing to sign a forward after losing Harry Kane.

Ronaldo is not the type of player they are seeking, but they might consider signing him if it made financial and sporting sense.

Jorge Mendes, the super agent for Portugal's captain, arrived in Turin to meet with Juventus about Ronaldo's future. Sky in Italy reports.

According to reports, the 36-year old, who scored 118 goals in 292 matches for Manchester United between 2003-2009, is open to a move to Turin, but Juventus expects him to stay.

Ronaldo has not yet communicated with the club about his desire to leave. Ronaldo's current contract at Allianz Stadium is valid until June 2022. He earns 31 million per year after taxes.

City is the only club interested in Ronaldo at the moment, Paris Saint-Germain is not.

Ronaldo's representatives want a move. Juventus would love to sign Gabriel Jesus as part of the deal. City, however, does not want to sell the Brazil international forward.

Ronaldo, who was a surprise omission in Juve's Serie A opener versus Udinese, left training Wednesday after suffering an arm injury.

Ronaldo deal could only be done by Man City club

Sky in Italy's Gianluca Di Marzio:

"Jorge Mendes is Ronaldo's agent and has arrived in Turin. He has not yet met Juve, and Juve has not made a formal offer.

"What we do know is that Cristiano would love to be free for Man City. Cristiano wants to move, so he and his agents push Juventus and Man City for this deal.

"Juventus would love to take Gabriel Jesus in any agreement, but Pep Guardiola does not want that to happen. We will find out in the coming days if the economic conditions are right for this deal.

"At the moment, City is the only club that could do this deal. PSG at this time are not interested."

Why Ronaldo's exit would benefit Juve finances

Gabriele Marcotti talks about the new Transfer Talk podcast.

"We know that Juventus suffered huge losses in the past two seasons. [The club confirmed in April that the first half 2020/2021 of its financial year ended with a loss in 113.7 million, plus a loss in 50.3m in January of the previous fiscal year]. This club is listed on the stock market and cannot operate as if it were a money pit.

Ronaldo is not responsible for their losses, it's Covid's fault, but Ronaldo still earns 65m per season, which works out to around 60m, and more than 1m per week.

He has one year left on his contract. In a year, they would have to let him go. They aren't going to say that Ronaldo would be okay if they left but they are aware of the fact they could immediately start rebuilding if he was gone.

Ronaldo will stay, but then they will lose him for nothing. Juventus won't be able to extend his contract unless he accepts a massive pay cut. They are now in an uncomfortable position.
