Apple Plans to Develop Program to Improve Supply Chain Security

Apple CEO Tim Cook attended a cybersecurity meeting this morning with Joe Biden from the United States and other executives from tech companies such as Amazon, Google, and Microsoft.


The White House stated that companies attending the summit pledged their support to U.S. cybersecurity efforts. Apple plans to create a program to improve security across its technology supply chain (via Bloomberg & CNBC).

Apple will collaborate with suppliers to implement multi-factor authentication, security training and incident response to increase security.

Google will invest $10 billion in cybersecurity over the next five years and plans to train 100,000 Americans through its Career Certificate Program. Microsoft has pledged $20Billion over five years for more advanced security tools. It will also invest $150M to assist government agencies with their security system upgrades.

IBM announced that it will train over 150,000 people in cybersecurity skills over three years. It also announced a new data storage system for critical infrastructure companies. Amazon Web Services will offer security awareness training and multi-factor authentication devices for account holders.

During the meeting President Joe Biden asked technology executives to improve cybersecurity for critical infrastructure. He urged them to increase their cybersecurity skills and make improvements in their respective sectors.
