The five episodes that open season eight are dubbed Armageddon. They will feature Team Flash and the rest on Earth being threatened by an alien invasion. Realizing that they cant face this new threat on their own, Barry and Iris create an epic-sized contact list and invite some of their old friends to help: Javicia Leslies Batwoman and Supergirls Chyler Leigh as Crisis on Infinite Earths Osric Chan as Ryan Choi, Arrows Kat McNamara and Arrows Kat McNamara respectively as Mia Queen and Crisis on Infinite Earths Osric Chou as Ryan Choi. Former Legends of Tomorrow (and Superman too, I suppose) Brandon Routh will play the Atom
These will be some of Flash's most heartfelt episodes. Flash producer Eric Wallace stated that there will be some incredible moments and big surprises for our viewers. (via Collider). They are doing it on a larger scale than traditional Flash episodes. Armageddon is more than a graphic novel storyline. This event will be an unforgettable experience for Arrowverse and Flashverse fans old and new.
Armageddon will see the return of many more heroes than just the CW/DC stalwarts, Neal McDonough (a.k.a. Eobard Thawne) and Tom Cavanagh, long-time CW/DC stalwarts. The Reverse Flash, respectively. This is the first major crossover between the CW's DC shows since Crisis on Infinite Earths. A previously planned team-up that would have included Superman & Lois, as well as Batwoman, was scrapped last year due to c ovid-19’s effects on production. It is perhaps telling that Armageddon will not be spread across multiple shows. However, it should allow it to avoid the problems past DC/CW crossovers had, where individual episodes felt more like they were part of a larger story than they did.
The Flash's eighth season will begin with Armageddon when it airs on the CW on November 16.
