Quarter-final Vitality T20 Blast Emirates Riverside Yorkshire 177-7 (20 Overs): Ballance 55; Kohler-Cadmore 56; Mills 3-39 Sussex 175-7 (19.4 Overs): Wright 54, Thompson 3-28 Match scorecard

The Sussex Sharks won five wickets over Yorkshire to reach the T20 Blast Finals Day, their first win since 2018.

Luke Wright led them with 54, and Afghanistan's Rashid Khan scored an unbeaten 27 from nine deliveries to reach 178-5 with just two balls.

Yorkshire chose to bat first, and despite losing three wickets early, Gary Ballance, Tom Kohler-Cadmore each made 55 runs to take them to 177-7.

Jordan Thompson took then 3-28, but the Sharks timing their chase perfectly.

Yorkshire was without Lockie Ferguson, their top wicket-taker. Both sides were missing players due to England duty - Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow for the Vikings, as well as Ollie Robinson from Sussex - while Yorkshire entered the game without Lockie Ferguson.

Luke Wright, the Sussex skipper, scored his fourth half-century in the T20 Blast this year.

Vikings prefer shorter boundaries

Headingley will be using Durham's Riverside ground for Wednesday's third Test. Yorkshire brought the rope in to match their home's boundary dimensions.

The move didn't work out initially. Adam Lyth, David Willey, and Harry Brook all left within five overs. Khan, who scored 485 runs in the group stage, was unable to sweep Khan.

Kohler-Cadmore was not fluent at the beginning of his innings. Ballance, however, raced to 50 in an effort to improve the scoring rate. Khan off George Garton caught him.

Kohler-Cadmore was able to finish his half-century, but Tymal Mills caught him off (3-39), as the Vikings added another 107 runs in the last 10 overs.

Run chase set up by openers

Both sides had met only twice in T20 matches, with the victorious side winning both times.

However, Sussex were given a flying start from Wright and opening partner Phil Salt. They put on 72 runs in just eight overs.

Wright was out on 31 when wicketkeeper Harry Duke made a hash about a skier. He hit sixes and six fours in his 39-ball run before Adil Rashid was caught trying to slog-sweep him.

Thompson, an all-rounder, was picked for the home attack. He removed Salt, Ravi Bopara, and David Wiese, leaving Sussex with 35 balls.

Khan managed to keep his cool under pressure and score two sixes, three fours and a tie before Chris Jordan won the match.

Khan will not be available to attend Finals Day at Edgbaston, 18 September. Instead, Sussex will attempt to repeat their victory in 2009's Twenty20 Cup.

David Willey, Yorkshire captain:

"I think that we believed we were a little under par, because we had the best conditions. It was probably more beneficial to bat in the first part.

"We didn't know enough about the basics of the field and that cost us dearly."

"Rashid was able to bang it quite nicely." They deserve credit and best of luck for Finals Day.

Rashid Khan, Sussex's player of the match:

"I only needed to support my skills and I thank the coaching staff for sending us in a little earlier to finish the game.

"I did my best to keep still and get the basics right. They were able to bowl exactly where I needed it and I was able to finish it well.

"But it's too bad I won't have time to be there at Finals Day. Each player would love the opportunity to be there.
