Marc Gurman, a well-known leaker, is back with yet another Apple rumor. He's adding details to the earlier reports about a new Mac Mini, including more ports and a new design. It will be available in the coming months.

This information is courtesy of Gurmans Power On newsletter. Here's the complete quote:

Although the Mac mini is primarily used for video streaming, many people use it for software development, video editing, and as a server. Apple knew this and kept the Intel model. You can expect it to disappear in the coming months, replaced by a M1X Mac mini. It will feature a new design and have more ports than the current model.

Apple's Mac Mini was the first computer to be upgraded to the new ARM architecture. However, the Mac Mini's basic design has remained the same for many years. The M1 chip also meant that it wasn't as powerful as the MacBooks, other than having better thermals.

Expect a new M1X Mac Mini with a dramatically redesigned design and improved performance. Apple may be considering the Mac Mini more than a desktop computer for casual work. For those who don't need an integrated display but still want to save money, it could be just as versatile as the iMac.

Jon Prosser of Leaker Jon pointed out a new design that featured a plexiglass cover and a magnetic power adapter. However, we have not seen any evidence to support those claims. It would not surprise me if the Mini's design was inspired by the new iMac. The M1X chip will likely allow Apple to make it even smaller.

Apple looks set to have a busy autumn with new iPhones and iPads, MacBooks and AirPods.
