Captain Virat Kohli claims that his India team was "provoked by England" in the second Test and will not "take a backwards move" when they meet again at Emerald Headingley.

India won Lord's game by 151 runs, thanks to a stunning fightback on the last day.

Kohli stated, "This team will not back down."

"What's being said on the field and done in the moment give you additional motivation."

Kohli didn't reveal the motivations of his players or himself, but there were many confrontations in a thrilling match that lasted until the end.

India pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah attacked England number 11 James Anderson with several bouncers on the third night. England responded in a similar fashion to Bumrah on the fifth morning, during a spell that could have cost them the match.

Jos Buttler and Kohli had a verbal argument as England lost 120 runs on the final day. They failed to win two of their remaining sessions.

Kohli said that the details didn't need to be discussed. His side leads 1-0 in the five match series.

It happens right now. It's the way you rise from this situation that matters.

Anderson was bowled by Bumrah in the first innings. Anderson was hit on the helmet by one of the bouncers.

Anderson said that he didn't want to help me out. Anderson, England's most successful wicket-taker, said that he has never felt anything like this in his entire career.

They have a passion side. They channel emotion differently than we do. They channel emotion well, as we saw the last day.

Malan is eager to prove people wrong

Malan is the father of test cricket

England has recalled batter Dawid Malan for Headingley, an opportunity that he didn't expect after playing the 15th Test in 2018.

Haseeb Hameed, who was a regular at that spot at Lord's, will bat at number three.

"Realistically, did you think it would happen?" "Probably not," Malan, 33 years old, said. He has an average of 27.84 and has one hundred against Australia in Perth. Malan also has six fifties from 26 Test matches.

"Sometimes, you can say the right words but not believe it will happen.

"When you return, you are hungry. You want to score runs. You want to prove others wrong. You want to prove people wrong and that you can play at this level for a longer time.

"I am confident that I can play Test cricket. This is an amazing opportunity and a great chance to have another go at it.

Who will replace the wood that has been damaged?

Craig Overton or Saqib Mahamood will replace Mark Wood, pace bowler at Headingley due to a shoulder injury sustained at Lord's.

Overton, a Somerset seamer, has taken nine wickets at 44.77 during four Tests. The most recent was in 2019.

Mahmood of Lancashire has never played in a Test but was named man-of-the-series in England's 3-0 win over Pakistan in July. He took nine wickets at 13.66 each.

India might recall off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. He has 413 Test wickets, but was not noticed for the first two Tests.

Kohli said, "We are quite surprised to see it pitch." "I was expecting more grass, and it would be more spicy and vibrant."
