NASA Astronaut Warns Wealthy Space Tourists: Space Requires “Grit”

Don't expect a five-star experience.
You can rough it

Megan McArthur, a NASA astronaut, warned wealthy passengers not to expect a glamorous space trip as the space tourism industry gets ready to take off.

McArthur likened the experience of surviving space travel with being an explorer back in Earth: enduring difficult and dangerous situations to better understand the unknown.

McArthur said that it was a bit like the other explorations people have done over time. It is necessary to accept some discomfort and risk. To be able to get through these situations and still enjoy them, you need to have grit.

Making it happen

Who wants to take a sponge bath when they are unable to shower? You will need to sleep in a sleeping bag that is strapped to a wall near an air vent to keep astronauts from drowning.

They developed mental toughness. Isaacman explained to Insider that they became comfortable being uncomfortable. The mountain is a food desert. The mountain can get very hot. Dragon is no exception.
