BUFFALO (N.Y.) -- The Buffalo Bills' wide receivers Cole Beasley, Gabriel Davis, and a trainer for the team tested positive for COVID-19 Tuesday. A league source confirmed this Tuesday. A source confirmed to ESPN that Star Lotulelei, the defensive tackle, is in quarantine.
The virus was found to be negative in all three of them on Tuesday morning, but they must still practice as per the NFL's COVID-19 policy. Schefter was informed by a source that the trainer has been fully vaccinated.
The New York Daily News reported the news that Davis and Beasley were in quarantine.
Beasley was critical of the NFL's policy that severely restricts unvaccinated athletes while allowing for near normal play for vaccinated ones. He tweeted in June that he wasn't vaccinated and would "live my only life as I wish."
For unvaccinated players, the NFL policy requires more frequent testing, masks, and social distancing at team facilities and on team travel. Unvaccinated team members must stay away for five days from any unvaccinated player who is deemed to have been in close contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19. Vaccinated players don't need to quarantine close contacts.
Beasley was particularly critical of the frequency of testing: Players who are not vaccinated are required to be tested every two weeks under the preseason and training camp policy.
Beasley stated, "It is common sense that if unvaxxed players are tested less often, the likelihood of a person being pulled for COVID drops drastically." "In terms of player safety, I'll end by saying that we all want to feel safe."
Beasley, who threw for 967 yards and 82 catches in 2020 was Bills' second-leading receiving receiver. Both career highs. During his rookie season, Davis had seven touchdowns to his name.
Lotulelei decided to opt out of 2020 season. He called his decision the "best decision I made for myself, my wife, and our children" in light of uncertainty surrounding COVID-19.
