John Carver (left) continues to be Steve Clarke's Scotland assistant, but Steve Woods, Steven Reid, and Steve Woods have both left the coaching staff.

After extending his contract, Steve Clarke, the head coach of Scotland will be leading the Euro 2024 qualification campaign.

Clarke led Scotland to the Euro 2020 finals this summer, the first major tournament for men's national teams in 23 years.

The deal for the 57-year old was to expire after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Clarke stated, "I am determined to help us return to major tournaments as quickly and improve on what we have done so far."

Clarke also restructured his coaching team, with Austin MacPhee joining the ranks and Chris Woods taking over as Stevie Woods & Steven Reid leave.

Reid leaves for family reasons while Woods, goalkeeping coach, goes to concentrate on his club commitments at Celtic.

Chris Woods, a former goalkeeper for Rangers and England, succeeds him. MacPhee has resigned from his position with Northern Ireland. John Carver is Scotland's assistant coach.

Chief executive of the Scottish FA Ian Maxwell said that it was "logical on all sides" for Clarke to be extended after he added "success to the national team"

Next week, Scotland will resume their World Cup qualifying bid with a triple-header against Denmark Moldova and Austria.

Clarke said: "I would also like to thank Steven Reid, Stevie Woods, for their contributions to our national team, both during the summer and especially in my first months of the job, which was difficult and result-oriented."

Clarke's new coaches

Austin MacPhee, the new national team coach, previously worked in Scotland for Hearts

MacPhee (41), was a former Hearts assistant and worked with Michael O'Neill when Northern Ireland won Euro 2016. MacPhee, 41, was initially an assistant to Hearts as Northern Ireland reached Euro 2016. He then joined Ian Baraclough's team and will now be working for his country's national team.

After a stint as assistant manager at FC Midtjylland, he joined Aston Villa as a set-piece coaching coach.

MacPhee stated, "A new opportunity has presented herself with my home country and it was one that I couldn't refuse,"

Chris Woods is a four-time winner of the Scottish title with Rangers. He also spent 15 years at Everton as a goalkeeping coach before moving on to coaching for Manchester United, West Ham, and the USA national team.

Clarke believes that Woods, a 61-year old, will be a benefit to Scotland. MacPhee's approach to coaching on the field as well as his use of data will also benefit Scotland.
