Bruce's Newcastle has lost its two Premier League opening games

Because of injuries, Steve Bruce, Newcastle United manager, could have to name four goalkeepers for his 25-man Premier League team.

Martin Dubravka, Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman were both injured so Freddie Woodman was the third-choice keeper.

It could have an impact on the potential transfer window additions if Newcastle has to sign four goalkeepers.

Bruce said, "It's unheard of."

"If we do a deal on a loan, there will be no place in the squad and nobody is left out. It is a very difficult financial situation."

In the lead-up to Wednesday’s Carabao Cup second round tie with Burnley, the Magpies manager spoke.

Slovakia's international first-choice keeper Dubravka had recent foot surgery. He is expected to be out for eight more weeks. There is no time limit on his return.

Bruce said, "Unfortunately, his wound got infected which will set him back another couple weeks."

The Magpies also have no second-choice Darlow who is currently recovering from Covid-19.

Bruce stated, "It's a case where Karl is seeing how his physical well-being is."

"In the past, I have had players who required at least six weeks to heal. It's important to be patient.

Woodman, 24 years old, has been on loan at Swansea City for the past two seasons. He was there to witness the defeats against Aston Villa (West Ham) and West Ham.

Mark Gillespie (29), a former Motherwell, Walsall, and Carlisle keeper, was on the bench for both matches.
