Xiaomi moves away from its ‘Mi’ product branding

A spokesperson for Xiaomi told The Verge that the company is gradually phasing out its Mi brand. Instead, products including flagship smartphones such as the Mi 11 will simply bear the Xiaomi name. XDA Developers first reported the news.
The spokesperson says that Xiaomi's product series Mi will be renamed Xiaomi starting in 2021 Q3. This will bring together our global brand presence and reduce the perceived gap between the brand's products and the brand. This change will not be immediately effective in all areas.

Xiaomi claims that Redmi will still be available, so the more expensive Xiaomi products will have a separate line. Redmi products offer greater innovation and a higher level of technology, while Xiaomi products are the most advanced and provide a premium experience.

The spokesperson said that this naming convention will be applied to our ecosystem over time and IoT products, but the Mi brand logo will still be used in Xiaomis Mi Home shops for the moment.

The Mi Mix 4 was the name Xiaomi used to refer to the new phone. The Mi Mix, Mi Mix 2, and Mi Mix 3 were the previous models.

The Mi brand was mostly used in Western markets, possibly because phones such as the Mi 11 were already known in China as the Xiaomi 11. Xiaomi believes that its company name is easily recognizable and better represents the products it makes.
