British tourists are having difficulty proving their vaccination status in Europe after delays in linking the NHS Covid Pass to the EUs system. This was due to gaps in the British government's application to Brussels.

A tie-up between IT and IT would allow automatic recognition of information on the NHS app across all 27 member countries. This would facilitate international travel as well as access to hospitality where proof is required.

The UK government submitted a request to connect to the EU's digital certificate on 28th July. However, the European Commission delayed its approval because it sought additional technical information from Whitehall.

Although at least 19 EU countries have accepted the NHS app for proof of vaccination status unilaterally, there are still difficulties for British tourists due to the absence of pan-EU recognition.
