Google posted Monday that Google Meet will soon notify you if it believes you are creating an echo during calls. It is difficult to determine if you are creating an annoying echo for participants in meetings, unless they interrupt to let you know. Google's proactive warnings will help to minimize everyone's suffering.
Google claims that Meet controls audio to eliminate echo. It can't handle all mic and remote desktop speakers that could result in audio being sent back to the call. The new echo warning is displayed as both a red dot in the Meet interface and as a notification or text alert. You can fix the echo by clicking the notification. This will allow you to mute your microphone, lower your speaker volume or switch to headphones.
Google has announced that the new echo warnings have begun rolling out to G Suite Basic and Business customers of Google Workspace, Google Workspace, and G Suite Basic. The rollout could take up to 15 working days. The warnings will be enabled automatically and do not require admin intervention.
