Boris Johnson, the British Prime Minister, will host an emergency meeting with G-7 leaders Tuesday in order to discuss the current chaotic situation in Afghanistan as well as their future plans.

G-7 countries, which include the U.K. and Canada, France and Germany, Italy, Japan, and Canada will try to develop a plan for the near term as thousands of Afghan refugees gather around Kabul's airport to flee the country.

The backdrop for the virtual meeting is a turbulent U.S. withdrawal. In Afghanistan, Taliban forces have taken control of the country in just 10 days after the Afghan government and military surrendered.

This also happens just one week before the Aug. 31 deadline by which the U.S. must withdraw all its troops from Afghanistan. Johnson will likely request Washington to extend the deadline, which President Joe Biden openly considered. The Taliban, however, have stated that they won't accept an extension.

It's a red line. "President Biden declared that they will withdraw all military forces on 31 August," Suhail Shaheen, a Taliban spokesperson, told Sky News Monday. "If they extend it, that would mean they are extending occupation when there is no reason for that."
