Source -- Josh Rosen to join Atlanta Falcons in wake of AJ McCarron's season-ending injury

According to ESPN's Jordan Schultz, the Atlanta Falcons have signed Josh Rosen, a former first-round pick, to replace AJ McCarron.
McCarron, who signed in April with Atlanta, tore his right ACL during Saturday's preseason match against the Dolphins in Miami. This ended McCarron's season.

Arthur Smith, Falcons coach, said Monday that the team would be working out to add a quarterback to challenge Feleipe Franks to replace starter Matt Ryan. He spoke out about the Falcons' current quarterback dilemma.

Smith stated, "It doesn’t mean we can add someone this week. It doesn’t mean we might not add another person next weekend." "We'll monitor that."

Smith said that they would see whomever they signed in Sunday's preseason finale against Cleveland Browns.

Ryan and the rest of the Atlanta starters have not yet played in this preseason. Smith stated that they would go through the week as though everyone was getting ready to start and then evaluate the true plan at week's conclusion. Rosen would be included in that list, although he would probably use a limited playbook to practice against the Browns. He needs to learn the terminology and then work as hard as possible.

Smith stated, "It's unfair to throw someone out there and say, ‘Here, this is the entire game plan. You better be able operate.'" So, it depends on who we sign, you can be sure they'll be ready for anything.

The 24-year-old Rosen will join the NFL's fifth team after he was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in 2018. As a rookie in Arizona as a UCLA star, Rosen played 13 games, completing 55.2% for 2,278 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also had 14 interceptions. After Rosen's rookie season, the Cardinals fired Steve Wilks. They hired Kliff Kingsbury to coach. The No. The Cardinals picked Kyler Murray as their No. 1 pick in 2019. Rosen was then traded to Miami where he played three games in 2019, completing 53.2% and completing 567 yards with one touchdown and five interceptions.

In September 2020, Miami waived Rosen -- they had taken Tua Tagovailoa with No. He was the 5th pick in 2020's draft and then he ended up on Tampa Bay’s practice squad. He was signed by San Francisco to the Buccaneers practice squad in December but didn't play in any games. Trey Lance was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers. Rosen was waived last week by the San Francisco 49ers, who drafted Trey Lance at No.
