Marvel's What If: T'Challa Helped Thanos, Nebula Says Creators

What If's second episode imagined a world in which TChalla was never able to grow up to be Wakandas Black Panther after he was kidnapped by aliens as a child. TChalla's journey to become the Star-Lord has brought him into the lives and hearts of many people throughout the galaxy. His mere presence can have a profound effect on their lives.

Although the galaxy is still a dangerous place, where outlaws continue to commit heinous crimes against other life forms in What If... TChalla Became a Star Lord?, TChalla (Chadwick Boleman) and his fellow Ravagers instill hope and optimism as they travel through space in search of big-ticket bounties. TChalla, the Ravagers and their wealth can change the course of history by distributing the wealth to the poor.

As the second episode begins, one of the smallest reflections of TChalla's impact is that the universes Nebula (Karen Gillan), is a less violent woman who prefers to have her platinum blonde hair down above her eyes for style reasons. The striking appearance of Nebula in the now-destroyed Sacred Timeline was due to her experience with torture and experimentation by Thanos (Josh Brolin), her adoptive father. He took it upon himself, however, to alter her body for combat. io9 spoke to Bryan Andrews and A.C. Bradley, What Ifs executive producer. They explained that Nebula's hair, which isn't a wig, was both a fun aesthetic choice as well as a hint at the way Thanos and Nebula's relationship.

Bradley said that we just wanted to show Nebula as a happier but not violent version. She believed that her father was kind enough to allow her to keep most of her body, even though her childhood was not perfect.

Various characters in What If... TChalla Became a Star-Lord! casually refer to how, prior to meeting TChalla, his views and ideas on how to balance the universe were very similar to those of his Sacred Timeline counterpart. Everyone knows Thanos' plan to use the Infinity Gauntlet or Gems was mass genocide. They can all laugh about how TChalla helped him see the truth. A touch of romance exists between Nebula (or Cha Cha, as she prefers to refer to him) and TChalla (or Gems). It is enough to show that they have history. Andrews stated that this was a part of the story that Gillen and Boseman embraced.

Chadwick loved the twist and [Gillen] was too.

Andrews said. TChalla somehow turned Thanos around in his galactic youth. This allowed Nebula to have a new life.

Gamora, Thanos adopted daughter and who has always been shown to have a more stable relationship, was absent from the pseudo-Guardians episode. Gamora's Thanos-like armor that Gamora was seen in What Ifs trailers suggests that she may have inherited all of the rage we associate with her family members. This could mean that they will be enemies when they meet.
