The latest episode of Apple TV+ comedy series "Ted Lasso" features Jeremy Swift's character Higgins making light of actors Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney and the purchase by Welsh soccer club Wrexham AFC in last year's episode.
Deadline reports that Reynolds and McElhenney replied to the joke over the weekend with a tweet in which they threatened legal action against Apple TV+.
The letter states that "while we hold in high regard the incomparable Jeremy Swift and are proud to be mentioned on a platform that's brought to us high-quality programming ranging Mythic Quest seasons one and two, we must insist you cease and desist the casting of any doubt regarding the club, the fans, and the entire Wrexham Community,"
McElhenney was one of the original creators of "Mythic Quest," so McElhenney is making fun of himself by creating his own Apple TV+ series.
McElhenney and Reynolds added that Apple had to send two large boxes Ted Lasso's biscuits (in order to avoid legal action) to Wrexham AFC's Stadium before the club's season opener match on Saturday. Apple TV+ replied with a tweet stating that it has 2,000 lawyers working feverishly at baking. Although it would be funny if Apple kept its word, the actors have not provided any evidence.
Rob, thank you for your kind arbitration request. Our team of 2,000 lawyers are furiously baking as we speak... https://t.co/GMutZqLLFr Apple TV (@AppleTV) August 21, 2021
Apple TV+ costs $4.99 per month, or $49.99 per annum. It offers access to a growing library original TV shows and movies. This includes Ted Lasso, which has been a huge hit and strong marketing asset. The show's first season won numerous major awards, and the second season is currently in production.
