Sony’s new PS5 model is lighter and doesn’t need a screwdriver

Sony quietly launched a new PS5 model in Australia. Press Start, an Australian gaming website, reports that the new PS5 models come with a new screw that doesn't require a drill. Sony apparently replaced the screw with a grip to allow for hand adjustment.
Press Start reports that the updated PS5 models weigh in at around 300g (0.6 lbs) less than the original. However, it is not clear what Sony has done to reduce the weight. Instead of the CFI-1000 model number on the original, the new PS5s come with a CFI-1102A number.

Australia is the first country to stock these revised PS5 models. Although Sony has eliminated the requirement for a screwdriver to support the base stand, it is still necessary for accessing the removable M.2 SSD storage. Find the best PS5 SSD options here.

With a forthcoming software update, Sony plans to make removable SSD storage available. Beta testers have access to the update. It also contains improvements to the PS5 dashboard interface, 3D audio support built-in TV speakers, as well as a better way of distinguishing between PS4 games and PS5.
