States can’t block federal funds for districts that mandate masks, Education secretary says

Education Secretary Miguel Cardona stated that federal funds can be granted to public schools that want to implement mask mandate rules, even if the state governments try to force them to do so.
If mandatory mask rules were enacted, the Florida state government threatened with withholding funds from schools in Broward or Alachua counties. The Biden administration suggested using federal funds to make up any shortfall. Cardona stated Sunday that schools "does not have to be given the green light by [their] governor" to use these funds.

Cardona stated that "We must do everything possible to keep them safe." They can access the funds promised to them, so they can safely reopen their schools.
