Vivek Murthy, the US surgeon general, stated Sunday that COVID-19 requirements for vaccines that have been developed by colleges and businesses are "very reasonable." The Food and Drug Administration will soon approve the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine.

Murthy, during a CNN appearance on "State of the Union", expressed no reservations about the use of health mandates in the classroom and at work.

He said, "We already know there are many universities and businesses that have moved towards vaccine requirements, and I think that that's a very rational thing to do in order to create a safe environment."

Murthy supported the requirement that school employees be vaccinated against COVID-19.

He said, "There's another thing I believe we should do, that states have done to create safer schools. That's making sure that all employees, teachers, and other staff are vaccinated to make our children's lives easier."

Murthy stated that the spread of the deadly Delta variant virus across the US made it imperative to ensure the safety of children.

He said that he believes all of these steps are reasonable when faced with the most transmissible variant we have seen, the Delta variant. "When our children are at risk, their health and well being is our primary concern, so we need to do everything we can to make sure they're safe."

He stated, "I believe that these measures, and these requirements, are absolutely reasonable." "I believe they will help."

Murthy, who was Surgeon General under the Obama administration, stated that the FDA's impending announcement about the full approval for the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine will encourage more people to get their shots, and help more businesses and employment places to enforce requirements.

According to Johns Hopkins University's latest data, 37.7 Million people have been infected since the outbreak in the US.
