As a Black Canary movie is in the making, Dinah Lance takes center stage!

Deadline reports that Misha Green, Lovecraft Country writer and showrunner, is making a Black Canary movie to air on HBO max. Green and Jurnee Slolett discussed the possibility of exploring Black Canary's world and character in Lovecraft Country's press. The show was cancelled after just one season.

Smollett will play the role of Dinah Lance, aka Black Canary, who was first introduced in fantabulous fashion by Cathy Yan's 2020 DC film Birds of Prey. Lance (Ewan McGregor) is introduced in the film as Lance, a cabaret singer who acts as Roman Sionis' personal driver. She reveals her superhuman ability to scream alongside Harley Quinn (Margot Robertbie) and The Huntress Helena Bertinelli(Mary Elizabeth Winston).

The film will be produced by Sue Krolls Kroll & Co. Entertainment. This company also produced Birds of Prey. Green's role in the film is not yet known. However, it is likely that she won't get to it soon. Green is super busy with upcoming projects as a writer/producer/director, as shes involved with new Jennifer Lopez thriller The Mother, and also attached to direct Tomb Raider 2. Smollett is also involved in a couple of projects, including the Netflix film Escape from Spiderhead.

Smollett is full of excitement over the film and has pretty much confirmed that things are in the works via social media.

HBO Max is currently developing several DC super heroes movies, including Batgirl starring Leslie Grace, Blue Beetle and Xolo Marduea. There's also a Black Superman series being developed with producer Michael B. Jordan. HBO Max is also developing The Green Lantern Corp series, although it is not a movie.
