On Sunday, the Tampa Bay Rays placed Nelson Cruz, designated hitter, on the COVID-19 injures list.
Cruz was not tested for the virus and it is unclear if he was put on the COVID-19 IL as a result of being a close contact.
Cruz, who was acquired by the Rays before the deadline to trade, is hitting just.198 with seven homers and 18 RBIs in 24 games played with Tampa Bay.
The 41-year old Cruz is hitting.270 this season with 26 home runs, and 68 RBIs.
In a similar move, the Rays recall right-hander Chris Mazza of Triple-A Durham.
