After weeks of fighting the virus in hospital, a well-known conservative radio host and vaccine skeptical has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

According to his family, Phil Valentine, 61 was an outspoken critic of vaccines who hosted "The Phil Valentine Show" at WWTN-FM Nashville. He had a heart attack and became seriously ill.

Valentine's Nashville radio station SuperTalk 90.7 WTN reported his passing in a tweet Saturday afternoon.

Valentine posted on Facebook in July that he had contracted this virus.

Later, he told his listeners his symptoms were congestion, coughing and fatigue. He said it "hurts like hell."

Valentine's family released a statement a week later confirming that Valentine had contracted the virus. They said Valentine was being treated for "covid pneumonia" in hospital and was now breathing with an oxygen tank.

Valentine stated in a blog post that he believes only those who have "underlying health problems" should be vaccinated with COVID-19.

"I am not anti-vaxxer. I just use common sense. How likely am I to get COVID? They are very low. How likely am I to die from COVID? He wrote that it was probably less than one percent.

Valentine used to sing "Vaxman" on his radio show, a parody of "Taxman" by The Beatles.

He would sing "Cause, I'm Vaxman, yeah, I'm Vaxman." You don't have to like me coming around, I won't keep you down.

Mark Valentine, the radio host's brother, posted on Facebook that he regretted his position on vaccines after being admitted to hospital.

Mark Valentine wrote that Phil would like his listeners to understand that he is not an "anti-vaxer", but he regrets not being more passionately 'Pro-Vaccine.

He concluded his statement by asking people to "PLEASE GO TO GET VACCINATED!"
