Trump holds potential superspreader rally in Cullman, Alabama, two days after the city declared a COVID-19 state of emergency

New York Times data show that Cullman County saw a 218% rise in COVID-19 hospitalizations in the past two weeks.

Alabama currently has no ICU beds.

Cullman declared a state of emergency on Thursday due to hospital and emergency room overcrowding and bed and labor shortages. The emergency also triggered an ambulance crisis that strained the system's health care system.

Two days later, the former President Donald Trump organized a "Save America!" rally that attracted thousands of unmarried people to the city.

After George C. Scott's "Patton” speech and "God bless the U.S.A" speeches, Trump addressed a York Family Farms crowd about the usual stump topics such as Russia, immigration, and COVID-19 which he still refers to as the "China virus."

Many of the attendees wore Trump memorabilia, red, white and blue, and chanted "USA!" And "We want Trump!"

According to The New York Times data, Cullman County includes Cullman. There has been a 218% rise in Cullman County hospitalizations in the past two weeks.

Chief operating officer at Cullman Regional Medical Center Nesha Donaldson asked for additional resources such as EMT services to help reduce the strain on the hospital.

Cullman Regional updated its website on August 18, stating that they are currently treating 53 COVID patients, 12 of which are on ventilators.

Donald Williamson, President of Alabama Hospital Association, stated in an interview on Tuesday with WSFA 12 News that there are no more beds in the intensive care unit.
