Manny Pacquiao and Yordenis Ugas will fight for Ugas’ WBA "super” welterweight title at Saturday's main event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas.
Pacquiao (62-7-2 and 39 KOs), 42. He is a senator from the Philippines. His last fight was in July 2019, when he defeated Keith Thurman in a split decision. Saturday's fight could be his last in the Hall of Fame -- if he continues to pursue his plans to run for president.
Pacquiao defeated Thurman to win the WBA belt. However, he was inactive and his WBA belt was taken away in January. Ugas (26-0, 12 KOs), 35 from Cuba, who was the WBA secondary title holder, was promoted to full titlist. Pacquiao is determined to regain his title. If he succeeds, he will be the only fighter to have won a welterweight championship five times.
Ugas, who was supposed to fight on the undercard on the event, took over for Errol Spence Jr. and faced Pacquiao with only 11 days notice. In 2019, he lost to Shawn Porter, but has since won three fights consecutively.
Former champions Robert Guerrero, Victor "Vicious", Ortiz and Victor "Vicious", will face off in the co-main event. It will be a 10-round welterweight bout.
