Deadline reports that actor Don Cheadle will reprise his role as James Rhodes (a.k.a War Machine), and the series is an adaptation from the comic series of this name.
Cheadle and Lester have collaborated before. Cheadle and Lester currently star in Showtime's black comedy series Black Monday. It chronicles the aftermath to the worst stock market crash ever recorded. Other acting credits for Lester include Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Making History. Lester is a writer and has appeared on shows such as Kenan, Girls, The Carmichael Show, and The Carmichael Show.
Iron Man, in the comic is an Avenger but a fugitive. His tech is stolen and sold to criminals who want to replicate the science behind his armor suit. It appears that Rhodes will be the one to stop Tony Stark's technology falling into the wrong hands, as Tony Stark has already died in the MCU.
Armor Wars is the latest Marvel/Disney series that has been created from its comic source material. It joins an extensive list of new shows such as the Ironheart series featuring Dominique Thorne (with Chinaka Holge as head writer), Hawkeye and She-Hulk. The creation of an Armor Wars series follows the tradition of previous Disney+ Marvel series such as WandaVision, The Falcon, Winter Soldier, Loki and What If?
The success of Disney+'s shows has earned WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier a total of 28 Emmy nominations. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany have been nominated as best actress and actor in a limited series. Don Cheadle has been nominated as best guest actor in drama series for his role in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
