Trump, the former president, revealed on Friday that he had "single-handedly" moved the US Space Command out of Colorado's Peterson Air Force Base to an Alabama site. This was a disappointment to bipartisan officials who suspected that Trump made the decision for political reasons.
Trump claimed that he made the decision to attend the rally, even though he had mistakenly mixed up Space Command and Space Force, an independent branch of the military, during an interview with "Rick and Bubba", an Alabama radio station.
He told the hosts, "I said it all myself, 'Let’s go to Alabama.'" They wanted it. "Let's go to Alabama," I replied. Alabama is my favorite.
The US Air Force announced in January that Space Command's headquarters will be moved from Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, to Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Alabama.
Colorado Springs was the home of Space Command's predecessor, Air Force Space Command. Many lawmakers have questioned this change.
The Pentagon's Inspector General is investigating the decision and the Government Accountability Office are currently looking into it.
Although Colorado voted for Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State in 2016 and Joe Biden as President in 2020, Alabama voters overwhelmingly supported Trump in both his presidential campaigns.

Governor. Jared Polis, Sens. Michael Bennet, John Hickenlooper and Jared Polis, along with local Republicans, from Congressman Doug Lamborn up to Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers.
In a joint statement, the governor and Lt. Friday's statement was made by Governor Dianne Primavera. These snide remarks fly in the face Coloradans, military family members, and those who have worked hard to create an aerospace ecosystem that can guarantee the operational success and best value for taxpayers."
They said: "Keeping US Space Command Colorado means protecting our national safety but it's clear the former President, through his own admission, made this misguided choice for political or personal reasons."
Hickenlooper was a former mayor of Denver and Colorado governor who was elected last November to the Senate. He was also critical.
In a statement, Trump said that Trump had admitted to what we knew. He made a political decision to move Space Command. This was despite having considered both budgetary and national security considerations. This is precisely why we have called for a review of the decision and a reconsideration. We look forward the Air Force looking out for what is best for our national safety and making sure Space Command is in Colorado Springs.
According to Suthers, the Colorado Springs Gazette first reported Trump's comments.
He stated that he maintained throughout the entire process that the decision to base US Space Command permanently on merit was made. "The admission of former President Trump that he directed the move to Huntsville (Alabama) is a support for our position."
In late 2019, the Trump administration retooled Space Command.
This command was created in response to possible threats to US space assets coming from Russia or China.
The Pentagon has not approved a move and Congress has not yet authorized any funds to move the command.
