Young boys steer car to safety after dad shot and killed on Texas freeway

Authorities said that two boys from Texas drove their car one mile to safety after their father was shot and killed while driving on a Texas freeway.
According to the Houston Police Department, the incident occurred on the East Freeway at the intersection of Federal Road and I-10 in Houston.

Local media reported that the boys aged 6 and 8 thought a rock had hit their car before their father fell over the steering wheel. According to reports, the boys grabbed the steering wheel and led the SUV onto a road. The SUV stopped and the boys ran to get help.

According to police, the father was killed on the spot. According to KHOU-TV, the boys weren't hurt.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are not clear.

KTRK-TV's Lt. R. Willkens stated that "we don't know if this was road rage" or if someone was trying to get the individuals. Prayers for their families. They are safe now.
