Floyd Reese, former general manager of the Tennessee Titans, died Saturday at the age 73.

Amy Adams Strunk, Titans controlling shareholder, made a statement.

"This is a very sad day for the Titans family. Sally, Floyd's wife, and his grandchildren, as well as extended family, my sincere condolences. Floyd worked over 20 years with our franchise as a coach, assistant general manger, and finally, as general manager. He was an exceptional performer in all these roles.

Reese was with the organization for 21 years, starting as a Houston Oilers linebackers coach in 1986. From 1994 to 2006, he was general manager. He worked around Tennessee's 1997 move of the franchise before leading the team to the Super Bowl in 1999.

Reese was GM and the organization went 106 to102. During this period, star players like Steve McNair, Eddie George, and Jevon Kearse were drafted.

In July, the Titans announced that he would be inducted in the Ring of Honor along with Jeff Fisher and Bum Phillips, his former head coaches.

Reese played football for the New England Patriots between 2009 and 2012. He worked alongside Jon Robinson, the current Titans general manger.

He was a great man. Robinson spoke highly of Reese, saying that he loved his family and loved football. I learned a lot about him. He was always open to listening and wanted to share his knowledge with me and others. He was a true friend and I will always be grateful for that. Floyd, thank you so much! I hope to see you again one day!"

Reese was a radio host for more than five years on ESPN 102.5 The Game, Nashville, before stepping down in Dec.
