Loyalty programs often offer points for sale at a discount. This is a great opportunity for many to purchase points at a reasonable price, especially for aspirational redemptions.

Many loyalty programs are offering promotions for buying points at the moment, with many offers ending soon. This post will give you a quick overview of these deals, as it can be difficult to keep track.

These are the 10 best deals on buying points, sorted by promotion expiration dates.

I linked to posts that discussed when buying points from these programs makes sense in each case. You shouldn't assume that a 100% bonus in a program is better than a 50% bonus from another program. Different programs offer different value propositions.

The best deals I have seen are from Alaska Mileage Plan and Hilton Honors, Marriott Bonvoy and World of Hyatt.

Some loyalty programs allow you to purchase points directly (including American AAdvantage). If you are eligible for airfare spending, then mileage purchases can be counted as such. In these cases, you would want to use one the following cards:

5x Membership Rewards points for every dollar spent directly on airlines or through Amex Travel. Then, 1x the Platinum Card from American Express. Learn More 3x Membership rewards points per $1 spent on airfare Chase Sapphire Reserve. Learn More 3x ThankYou Points per Dollar spent on airfare Citi Prime Card. Learn More 2x Ultimate Reward points per $ spent on airfare Chase Sapphire Prefered Card. Apply Now

Points.com facilitates points purchases from other programs. These purchases are not eligible for airfare or hotel purchase, so they will have an impact on the credit card that you use.

For points.com purchases, I recommend using a card you are trying to reduce your spending or a credit card that maximizes the return on your everyday spending like the Citi Double Cash Card (review) and Chase Freedom Unlimited (review).

Keep in mind that these cards charge foreign transaction fees so they are not recommended for use in order to purchase points in foreign currencies. Use a card that does not charge foreign transaction fees for purchases made from foreign programs.
