Liverpool played at Anfield in front of a packed house for the first time since 528 days
Liverpool won the Premier League with victories over Burnley and Diogo Jota thanks to goals from Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota.
Jota scored the opening goal in the 18th minute. He crossed the ball past Nick Pope with Konstantinos Tsimikas’ cross, for his second goal in consecutive games.
Eight minutes later, Mohamed Salah had the ball in his net. However, the video assistant referee ruled it out as the Egyptian was offside during the build-up.
After ending Liverpool's unbeaten home run of 68 games, Sean Dyche's team were keen to win back-to-back league victories at Anfield.
Burnley's valiant defence was finally defeated as Jurgen Klopp's team doubled their lead with a brilliant second-half Mane strike.
Liverpool's captain Jordan Henderson was back in the starting XI, after missing the win over Norwich on the opening day. Teenager Harvey Elliott impressed as well during his Premier League debut.
Liverpool win in emotional Anfield return
Liverpool paid tribute before kick-off to Andrew Devine, a lifelong supporter and the 97th victim in the Hillsborough tragedy
Liverpool was preparing to face Anfield in front of a packed house for the first match since 11 March 2020.
Fans sang a heartfelt rendition of "You'll Never Walk Alone" 528 days ago, when the club hosted a capacity crowd for its Champions League match against Atletico Madrid. This was followed by touching tributes before kick-off.
Anfield paid tribute to Andrew Devine, 97th victim in the Hillsborough tragedy. There was one minute of applause.
The Kop was filled with fans who held up a mosaic containing the number 97. Henderson placed a wreath at the famous stand in memory of Henderson, 55, who died 32 years ago after suffering life-altering injuries in the 1989 tragedy.
Burnley was the first to have a chance, with Dwight McNeil scoring the goal within four minutes. However, Jota's first-half header sent Liverpool fans into raptures.
To score his first league goal at Anfield since November 2020, Pope was able to nip between James Tarkowski and Ben Mee, the Clarets' centre back pair.
Burnley thought they would equalize soon after the half-time break, but Ashley Barnes' attempt was disqualified.
Liverpool took time to settle in the second half. However, they soon found their groove and managed 17 shots following the break. Seven of those shots were on target.
It was a wonderful bit of play, initiated by Virgil van Dijk, and concluded by Mane, who sealed the three points.
Van Dijk's long ball wide found Elliott. He chested it down and eventually found Trent Alexander-Arnold. As he scored his 50th goal for Reds, the right-back made a first-time pass in the box for Mane.
