The Taliban executed an Afghan chief of police, days after promising not to take revenge on former enemies following their takeover in Afghanistan.

This graphic video of General Haji Mullah Achakzai kneeling, blindfolded, and handcuffed, was circulated via Twitter. It then went viral.

General Achakzai, the chief of Badghis Province in Afghanistan near Herat, was reportedly taken into custody by the Taliban following their recent takeover of the region.

Afghan security advisor Nasser waziri, who knew Achakzai personally, said that the Taliban had shared the video via an affiliated network and it had been verified as fact by government officials.

Waziri said that he was being surrounded by Taliban soldiers and could not resist surrendering to them last night.

Achakzai was a high-ranking intelligence officer and the Taliban targeted him."

In his 60s, the general was an experienced commander who had fought for decades against the Taliban.

According to UN reports, the Taliban had promised not to take any action against their enemies. However, they have reportedly begun "door-to door investigations" to identify former US allies.

Many ex-government officials are hiding now and in danger of their lives.

Newsweek reported that Nasser Waziri and other senior advisors had set up an online group chat. It includes as many as 100 Afghan officials who used work with the civil government in order to track individual's movements and ensure they are safe from Taliban.

He claimed that the group uses VPNs and regularly wipes their messages.

Although the Taliban try to present themselves as a moderate, reform-oriented group, there are horrifying reports from Afghanistan of violence, including when fighters set a woman on fire for poor cooking.

They also took billions of dollars of US-made weapons, and released a propaganda video that showed them holding state-of the-art weapons.
