Etihad Guest just launched its latest promotion for purchased miles

Etihad Guest offers bonus miles for those who have purchased them

Etihad Guest offers a tiered bonus for those who buy miles through Friday, August 27, 2021

Get a 30% Bonus when you buy 4,000 to 20,000 miles

Get a 40% bonus when you buy between 21,000 and 40,000 miles

Get a 60% bonus when you buy between 41,000 and 100,000 miles

You can buy up to 100,000 miles with Etihad Guest per year (unless you are a Platinum member in which case you can buy up to 150,000 miles). You can buy a total 160,000 miles for $2,000 if you reach the maximum amount of this promotion, at a cost of 1.25c per mile.

This promotion is one of the best we've seen for Etihad Guest Miles. It is possible to purchase Etihad Guest Miles for as low as 1.25 cents per unit.

Which credit card is best to buy miles?

Etihad mileage purchases can be processed by points.com. They don't count as airfare purchases for credit card spending. It is best to use a card with a minimum spending limit or a credit card that offers the highest return on your everyday spending.

Ordinarily, I would say that it would be a card such as the Citi Double Cash Card (review) and Chase Freedom Unlimited (review). However, you won't want to use them for foreign transaction fees.

For more information on the best credit cards for buying points, see this post.

This promo is valid for Etihad miles.

Although I would not speculatively purchase Etihad Guest Miles, there are excellent niche redemptions where this price might be worth it. Take this example:

For a single-segment business class ticket, you can redeem 44,000 Etihad guest miles. Unfortunately, this isn't as helpful as it once was.

While Etihad has some solid redemption options for flights on their network, Etihad Guest offers a distance-based award chart that varies depending on the city pair. It is a shame that Etihad Airways will soon be retiring its A380s which are the best first-class product on the carrier.

Although I think Etihad Guest miles worth 1.25 cents per piece could be a good deal, I should mention that Etihad guest is transfer partners with Amex Membership Rewards and Citi ThankYou. There are also other ways to earn these miles for Americans who have access to credit cards.

For those who don't have the means to pay for a credit card or prefer to spend 1.25 cents per miles over transfer points, Etihad Guest Miles could be a good deal.

Bottom line

Etihad Guest offers miles at a price of 1.25 cents per kilometer. This is a 60% bonus. This could be a great deal. However, I wouldn't recommend buying miles unless there was a specific purpose.

Is anyone planning to purchase Etihad miles using this offer?
