An ex-national security official claimed that the Trump administration and Stephen Miller's racist hysteria were responsible for preventing Afghans from applying for visas.
Olivia Troye was Vice President Mike Pence's homeland security and counterterrorism advisor. She criticized the Trump administration's handling of Special Immigrant Visas (SIV) programs, which provide US residency to locals who have worked in Afghanistan for the US government.
"There were cabinet mtgs during Trump Admin when Stephen Miller would sell his racist hysteria regarding Iraq & Afghanistan. Troye wrote that he and his enablers from gov't would destroy anyone who worked to solve the SIV problem by devastating the DHS & State system.

The US has struggled to evacuate Americans and tens of thousands Afghan allies who worked with it over the past 20 years since Sunday's quick takeover by the Taliban in Afghanistan.
Both sides have harshly criticised the Biden administration's handling of the US troop withdrawl and subsequent evacuations. However, Miller and the Trump administration have been subject to criticism.

Troye claimed that she worked on the SIV problem but was "nowhere" due to the allies of President Donald Trump at the Justice Department and Department of Homeland Security and other security agencies. This made the already complicated SIV process more difficult.
She stated that the matter was urgent for many in the administration, but many were afraid to criticize the president's allies. She also said that there were many closed-door meetings to discuss how to deal with the issue.
She said that Trump spent FOUR years -while putting together this plan - to evacuate these Afghan allies, who were the lifelines of many of us who had spent time in Afghanistan. "The process slowed down to a trickle for reviews/other priorities-then it came to an abrupt halt."
CNN was informed this week by an Afghanistan War veteran that Miller should be held responsible for war crimes for opposing the resettlement for endangered Afghans and that he was complicit in their deaths.
Miller supports strict immigration restrictions. Miller spoke on Fox News Tuesday night to say that those who advocate for mass Afghan resettlement were doing so for political reasons and not humanitarian ones. He also stated that it would be too costly.
"The United States of America never made any promise to Afghans that, if they could not secure their country within 20 years, we would take them to ours. This is absurd. Miller stated that this has never been the US government's policy.
