Oregon Ducks, Oregon State Beavers to require vaccination proof or negative COVID-19 test to attend college football games

EUGENE (Ore.) -- Oregon State and Oregon were the first Power 5 schools that announced they would require proof of vaccination for anyone over 12 years old to be allowed to attend their football games.
Oregon announced Friday that the decision was reached with state public health officials and peer institutions. The test results must be negative within three days.

The mandate will take effect Monday. It comes after a week in which state officials warned about filling hospitals quickly as daily reports of cases rose to record levels.

Oregon is among several Pac-12 schools that require students and employees to get vaccinated.

The Oregon football team will open its season in Eugene's 54,000-seat Autzen stadium on Sept. 4, against Fresno State. Oregon State will open its home schedule against Hawaii at Reser Stadium in September.

Due to a COVID-19 increase, Hawaii was the first college football school in the country to declare that it would not have any fans at its opening sporting events. September 5th is Hawaii's home football game against Portland State.

These moves are made one week after Tulane in New Orleans became first school to play football at the NCAA's highest division.

The city mandated Tulane to make the decision. However, school officials indicated that they were working towards establishing the policy themselves.
