Peloton’s app indicates a rowing machine may finally be coming

According to 9to5Google's Peloton Android app, the rumored Pelotons rowing machine might finally be in production. 9to5Google searched the code of the app and found references to the rowing machine that we have been hearing about over the years. These include instructions for rowing strokes, as well language suggesting that Peloton will provide real-world water scenery that can be viewed on a screen while rowing.
Bloomberg reported on plans for a Peloton Rower almost two and a quarter years ago. Recent job listings have mentioned a rower. The Pelotons CEO has also made numerous comments about rowers. It could indicate that the machine is in development if the rower information starts to appear in the apps code.

9to5Google discovered two possible code names for the project: Mazu (from China) and Caesar (from the United States). 9to5Google had to be creative to find these names as they were scrambled with a cypher. Mazu is the name of a Chinese water deity. This fits in with the idea that this product is a rower. It is also an old name that has been mentioned in Pelotons code.

Peloton is a natural competitor to machines, hence the Peloton of rowers.

Peloton will not be the first company to enter the smart-rower marketplace, but other companies have produced machines that some reviewers call the Peloton, or the Peloton of rowers. One of these machines was released in 2019, months before Bloomberg announced Peloton might also have one. It makes sense that the Peloton would be interested in a share of this market. This could allow another class of athletes to gain access to the Peloton ecosystem. It might also help the company get more members for its memberships.

Peloton has had a difficult few months. It issued a recall on its treadmills after a series of injuries and the tragic loss of a child.

Peloton was asked to comment on 9to5Google's findings. They said that while their R&D team is constantly working on new ideas and we don't have any new products to announce, they are working on an armband to monitor heart rate.
