Auburn Tigers football coach Bryan Harsin tests positive for COVID-19

Bryan Harsin, the first-year Auburn football coach, has been diagnosed with COVID-19. He said that he is now isolating at his home and does not have any symptoms.
Harsin stated that he had tested positive for HIV in a university statement.

While he will continue to attend meetings and practice remotely, Jeff Schmedding will be in-person as the assistant head coach. Schmedding also coaches linebackers.

Harsin, 44, stated that contingency plans had been prepared for any situation such as this. "... Teams that can handle adversity well and make the necessary adjustments are more likely to be successful, just like in a sport.

"I have complete confidence in our coaching staff. They will continue to prepare with that same intensity and focus as they did when camp began.

Harsin has not stated publicly whether he was vaccinated. A school spokesperson could not immediately confirm whether other members of the team or staff had been quarantined due to the positive test.

Auburn will open the season against Akron at 7 p.m. ET/ESPN
