Los Angeles County schools will require that students 12 years old and over receive the COVID-19 vaccination.

Culver City Unified Schools District is currently developing a plan to accommodate those who don't comply with the mandate.

Geoff Maleman, a spokesperson for the district, stated that local teachers' unions supported a mandate for vaccines for students.

Maleman stated that staff were concerned about returning to school with a room filled with children who hadn't been vaccinated. It became a safety concern for teachers.

Culver City Unified plans to also require masks and perform weekly testing regardless of vaccination status. This district is thought to be the first to require the vaccination of eligible students and staff. Staff and students must show proof of vaccination by November 19.

California was the first state that required teachers and staff to be vaccinated. Washington issued a mandate to vaccinate K-12 teachers and staff earlier this week.

Teachers are required to have the vaccine in all 50 states, including Denver, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.

Students at Culver city Unified rushed to their schools for the start the school year, as the delta variant continues to rage.

Quoc Tran wrote to his families, "As we all have learned, we may need change quickly to adapt new information." We are thrilled to welcome everyone back for a safe school environment.
