You can do your job from Costa Rica with this new 12-month digital nomad visa

Costa Rica has recently passed legislation to allow digital nomads visas. This visa permits foreign nationals to reside and work in Costa Rica for at least one year with their families, while also enjoying the country’s relaxed 'Pura Vida" lifestyle and many other benefits.
Since the pandemic, many countries have created special visas to allow remote workers. This is because more people are able to travel internationally as digital nomads. These visas were recently introduced in Estonia, Georgia, and Aruba. Now Costa Rica has followed the lead and granted visas to international tourists who want to work in the Central American country. They can stay for up to a year, with the possibility to extend their stay to two years.

The new visa is expected to boost the tourism sector and support the industry. The government expects that digital nomads will contribute USD $24,100 (15 millions colones) annually to the local economy.

Costa Rica's president Carlos Alvarado stated that the digital nomad uses services, purchases food, uses transportation and employs people. This generates more jobs and growth for the country.

The law was signed August 11th. While some details are still being confirmed, it is likely that individuals will be able apply for the digital nomad visa in a matter weeks.
