Benzema scored 281 goals during his 12-year tenure at Real Madrid

Karim Benzema, club captain, has signed a one year extension to his contract with Real Madrid. This will keep him at the Bernabeu through 2023.

The striker will now be in his 14th year at the Spanish club.

33-year-old Benzema arrived at Bernabeu in 2009. He has scored 281 goals during his 12-year tenure, including more than 20 goals each of the three previous La Liga seasons.

The club's fifth highest goalscorer is France International.

He is in excellent form and scored twice in Real's 4-1 win over Alaves on the opening day of this campaign.

Benzema scored four goals for France's national team in the delayed Euro 2020. He is still a key figure at club level under Carlo Ancelotti.

He renews his contract in the wake of Thibaut Courtois (Belgium goalkeeper), who signed a five-year extension to his contract earlier this week.
