We are currently in an emergency. As scorching temperatures and dry conditions fuel wildfires, they are raging all over the globe. These blazes have claimed lives and destroyed livelihoods.
A combination of extreme heat and changes in the ecosystem, along with prolonged drought, have led to some of the most devastating fires in nearly a decade. This comes just weeks after the IPCC issued a landmark report about the climate crisis.

Although technically there are less wildfires now than in the past, the problem is that they are more severe than ever. We are running out time to act as Jonathan Watts, Guardian's global editor for environment, explains.
