Apple delays return to office until January as Covid cases surge

CNBC confirmed that Apple employees won't return to work until January due to concerns about coronavirus outbreaks.

Bloomberg first reported the news of the delay.

The company informed staff that it is continuing to monitor the situation with coronavirus and will give them at least one month notice before they have to return to the office. All corporate employees worldwide are affected by the delay.

Apple's stores and offices are still open.

This comes at a time when the U.S. is seeing an increase in Covid cases. According to CNBC analysis of Johns Hopkins University data, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi reached new heights in the average number of Covid cases per day for seven days.

Apple isn’t the only tech giant to be rethinking its office return plans. Facebook announced last week that it would delay plans to return U.S. workers to the office until January 2022 because of concerns about the Covid-19 Delta variant.

Amazon also announced an identical plan earlier in the month for corporate employees.

Apple had already delayed its October office return, after originally stating that it would send workers in three days per week beginning in September.

Due to concerns about an increase in Covid-19-related infections, some large U.S. companies are also requiring workers to wear masks.
