Elon Musk says Tesla will build a humanoid robot prototype by next year

Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, announced that a humanoid robot named Tesla Bot will be built.
Musk stated, after an actor wearing a bodysuit designed to look like the Tesla Robot gyrated on stage. Musk said that while the actor wasn't a robot, "the Tesla Bot" will be.

This announcement was made during AI Day, an event hosted by Tesla in California that aims to recruit machine-learning talent.

Musk's showmanship is evident in the Tesla Bot, where he announces that Tesla will be developing exciting products for many years to excite backers, including customers and employees. These announcements often don't come on the time predicted.

At an "Autonomy Day" event held in April, Musk stated this for instance. Musk stated that the company will have 1,000,000 autonomous "robotaxis” on the roads by 2020. These robotaxis are not visible. Musk hosted an event in October 2016 at Universal Studios' Los Angeles back lot to showcase a product called the Solar Roof. The concept solar roof tiles that were on display was not realized.

Musk stated that if a robot can work repetitive tasks that humans cannot do, then it can transform the world economy and drive down labor costs.

Musk however warned that the robot would "probably not work" in its first days.

Musk stated that the program was intended to be friendly and help people navigate through a vast world of people and avoid repetitive, dangerous and boring tasks.
