Britney Spears Is Under Investigation For Battery After A Dispute With A Staff Member

According to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, Britney Spears is being investigated for battery by a staff member who accused Britney of a physical altercation.
Spears and her employee were having a heated argument at Spears' house on Monday, 10:25 AM. According to NBC News Spears allegedly slapped her employee's phone. Staff member called the deputies and reported to the sheriff's department.

Capt. BuzzFeed News was informed by Eric Buschow, Ventura County Sheriff's Office. The incident was investigated by deputies who responded to Spears’ home.

This incident could be considered misdemeanor Battery. Investigators' reports will be sent to the Ventura County District Attorney's Office, for consideration of any charges.

Mathew Rosengart (Spears' lawyer) told BuzzFeed News that the incident was pure hyperbole.

Rosengart stated via email that "this is sensational tabloid fodder nothing but a manufactured she said she said about a cell phone, without striking and obviously not injury whatsoever." "Anyone can accuse, but this should not have been opened immediately.

Rosengart said that the Sheriff's office has acknowledged that the incident was a minor misdemeanor and confirmed that there were no injuries.

BuzzFeed News reported that police also responded to a call to Spears' house on Aug. 10, as Buschow confirmed to BuzzFeed News.

He said, "She wanted to report a crime, but when the deputies arrived she decided not to file a report." After Spears didn't provide further details, the call resulted in no law enforcement action. Deputies then left the singer’s house.

The news comes as Spears is battling to regain control over her finances and life from a 13-year-long conservatorship. Jamie Spears, her father, has argued for years that she is unable make major decisions on herself. Recently, he said that he is planning to step down as conservator at some point and give control to someone else.
