OnlyFans Says It Will Ban Sexually Explicit Content

OnlyFans, an app that is most well-known for its adult-only content said it would now ban sexually explicit videos and photos that have made the company as valuable as $1 billion.

BuzzFeed News was informed Thursday by the company that it will ban any explicit or sexual content from its app starting October 1. It will continue to allow nudity that isn't sexually explicit.

The company stated that it must update its content guidelines in order to ensure long-term sustainability and continue hosting an inclusive community of creators. "Creators will still be permitted to post content that contains nudity, provided it conforms to our Acceptable Use Policy."

BuzzFeed News spoke with Billy Procida, creator of Only Fans. He said that he is trying to not "freak out” over the policy change. He is a comedian who hosts The Manwhore Podcast, but he said that he has paid his rent through the explicit content he creates for OnlyFans.

He said, "This will take away one leg of my overall income in the creator industry." "Summer was slower but I was still averaging my rent each monthly."

Lilli Sabine claimed she earns anywhere from $100 to $1200 per month on OnlyFans for her explicit content. It accounts for about half of her income, and contributes to student loans.

BuzzFeed News: "Unfortunately, it is not possible to quickly move my fanbase over from one platform... it will take away a major chunk my content income," she said. It can be difficult to convert followers to new platforms. If OnlyFans bans sex workers or lewd creators, I will have to rebuild everything.

Axios previously reported that OnlyFans was having difficulty finding outside investors due to its adult content.

The company stated that the changes were made to meet the demands of its banking partners and pay providers.

OnlyFans is a "subscription social network" that allows creators and fans to connect. However, its most popular users use it for sex. Information about the "Acceptable Use Policy", which will be coming soon, was not immediately available.

The company stated that it would release additional information in the coming days and reiterated its commitment to support its creators during these changes.

The company stated that it remains committed to its 130 million users and 2 million creators who have earned more than $5 billion through our platform.

This platform has seen a lot of growth in the last year as people looking for ways to make money from adult content during the pandemic. The company has launched a safe-for work version of its app and is currently seeking a valuation of $1 billion.
