Ward-Prowse joined Southampton when he was eight years of age
Southampton captain James-Ward Prowse signed a new five-year contract that will guarantee his long-term success.
The 26-year old midfielder was born at St Mary's Youth System and made his debut in the St Mary's first team at age 16.
He made 323 appearances and scored 33 goals for Southampton.
Ward-Prowse said, "I'm beyond thrilled." Ward-Prowse said, "I believe I'm probably most happy man in the whole world right now."
Ward-Prowse was called up to England for the first time in March 2017. He was part of Gareth Southgate’s 33-man provisional squad, but did not make it to the final squad.
Even though there was interest from other Premier League clubs, Southampton's decision to remain was a "big leap forward".
He said, "To commit again my future to this football club was something I'm extremely proud of and a new page begins now for me."
"It's probably my first talk and link in my career. It worked because I was eager to talk to the club.
"They have sat down with me and expressed their admiration for my performance and how they want me to lead them - this club has done so many things for me that I cannot put into words the opportunities and opportunities that they've given us and I am incredibly grateful to the club for that.
"I'm not done yet, I still have much to give to this club, and I want be there leading this team. I want to make sure I can give all back and repay the faith the club has shown me since I was eight years of age."
