Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp criticises 'idiots' over alleged homophobic chants

Klopp's side will take on Burnley at Anfield Saturday
Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool manager, has called a group of supporters "idiots" following homophobic chants that were heard last Saturday during their 3-0 win at Norwich.

Klopp spoke to Paul Amann on Thursday, founder of the Liverpool LGBT+ fan group Kop Outs.

He said, "I don't understand why you would sing a song against something in a football field."

Club members claimed that the chants were offensive and inappropriate.

"I never got that. Klopp said that he didn't like it. "In our case, we have probably one of the most extensive songbooks in the world. It is easy to decide to not sing the song. We can now decide that this is not our song.

"I don't know if people will listen to me, but it would be nice." It's too annoying to me for so many reasons.

Klopp addressed the chants directed against Norwich's Billy Gilmour who is on-loan to Chelsea. He said that the songs were a waste of time and did not motivate the players.

"When they start singing 'Bobby Firmino' and 'Mo Salah' or 'You'll Never Walk Alone' that kind of stuff gives you goosebumps.

"All other songs are a complete waste of time, and if [believe] in what you sing, then you are an idiot."

"I'm now 54 and I said many things when I was 20, but we didn't really think about them." We are thankful that we learned this 34 years later.
