Patrick Bamford: Leeds United striker signs new five-year contract

Last update on.
When Marcelo Bielsa's team won the Championship title, 2019-20, Bamford was present in every match but one.

Patrick Bamford, Leeds United's striker, has signed a five-year contract that will keep him at Elland Road through 2026.

The 27-year old has played 111 games for the club and scored 43 goals.

In a deal valued up to 10m, Bamford joined Whites from Middlesbrough in 2018.

The forward scored 17 goals in 38 games during the club's 16-year-old return to the top flight.

Bamford's excellent performances saw United finish ninth last year. This led to calls for him in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2020 squad. He was unable to attend.

He pledges his future to Elland Road with fellow Elland Road teammates Stuart Dallas and Illan Melier.

Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds' manager, has stated that Leeds signing more players before the transfer window closes is "not likely".

The Argentine stated that he was happy with his team before Saturday's match against Everton.

Leeds' newest recruits are Junior Firpo, from Barcelona, for 13.5m, and Kristoffer Klaesson (Valerenga) for goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson.

Fans were enthralled by the 5-1 defeat of Manchester United at Old Trafford on the opening day. The club finished ninth in Premier League.

Bielsa stated that it was unlikely that any further signings would be made during a press conference. "I feel comfortable with the players that I can rely on at the moment. The same group is as last year, with Alioski replacing Firpo.

Ezgjan Alioski, North Macedonia's defender, was released from his contract last month. He moved to Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia on a free transfer. This led to the acquisition Firpo, a Dominican Republic defender who is 24 years old.

Leeds has also signed Jack Harrison as a permanent signer following his extended loan.

Bielsa stated that young players on the fringes can still benefit from another year of experience. "Of course we have the option of bringing another player in as long as they are able to challenge us in that position."

"We need to find players that can defeat the existing players at a low price. However, a low price does not necessarily mean a high price.
