How to turn off ads on your Samsung Phone

Samsung phones are some of the most expensive Android phones available. However, their smartphones come with annoying advertisements. You've probably noticed advertisements in your Samsung Galaxy's notification tray or in some Samsung apps in recent years. We'll show you how to get rid of all these ads once and for all.
Samsung has been inserting ads into its smartphones for some time now. But, especially with the Galaxy S21, it seems worse than ever. These screenshots were taken with my own S21. They feature full-screen and banner takeover ads in Samsung Weather and Samsung Pay.

These in-app ads are found in almost every Samsung first-party application. Unfortunately, it's impossible to stop them from appearing. There are some things you can do to prevent them from appearing as often as possible.

How to stop personalized ads

First, opt out of Samsung's personalized ads and marketing program. You likely gave your consent to this program when you set up your phone. Fortunately, it's easy to disable.

Open the Settings app for your Samsung phone. Scroll down. Tap Privacy. Tap Customization Service. To turn off Customized ads or direct marketing, tap the toggle beside it.

Samsung cannot use your location or texts to deliver personalized ads once you have disabled it. Although in-app ads will not be completely disabled, it will limit the speed at which they are displayed.

This is how the process looks for older Samsung phones running One UI 3, such as the S21. Samsung had an older One UI version that offered a toggle to enable or disable the Receive marketing information. Unfortunately, this toggle has been removed.

How to disable marketing information in Samsung apps

Another step you can take for limiting advertisements is by going through Samsung apps individually and disabling their own in-app marketing/promotional toggles. This process is similar for all Samsung apps that have this option. Samsung Pay is an example.

Open a Samsung Pay app as a first-party Samsung application. Tap the hamburger menu icon in the upper-left corner of your screen. Tap Settings. To turn it off, tap the toggle next Marketing information.

This will disable the Samsung app's ability to send you marketing notifications and emails. It's a slow process to go through each Samsung app and do this for each one. However, it's worth it if you want these ads to be stopped from coming at you from all angles.
