Mint Mobile vs. Boost Mobile - What do you really need from a mobile phone service?

You'll most likely pay for too many features or have more data than you need when you sign up for phone services with any of the three major carriers. Mint Mobile and Boost Mobile are prepaid carriers that provide only the services you require. Boost Mobile offers customers a wide range of options so that they can make the right choice. Mint Mobile, on the other hand, has streamlined its data offerings into four plans that must all be purchased upfront. These plans are available in three, six or 12-month increments.

It is not the same as Boost's T-Mobile map.

Mint Mobile plans include free mobile hotspot data. However, it will eat up your monthly data allowance or limit you to 5GB for the unlimited plan. After you have used 35GB of unlimited data or the set amount, your speed will drop to 128Kbps the rest of the month. This is enough data to get basic data usage. However, you have the option to add 1GB or 3GB data for $10 or $20 more. You can upgrade your plan at any time.

Mint Mobile offers a $30 monthly introductory price on its unlimited plan. This brings its unlimited plan down to $30 per month. To keep paying this low price, however, you will need to sign up for 12 consecutive months after your initial three months. If your three-month period is up, your monthly bill will go up to $40 per calendar month for three more months, or $35 per calendar month for six. Mint is most valuable if you can pay in advance.

Mint Mobile vs. Boost Mobile: Boost Mobile Plans

Dish acquired Boost Mobile and began offering plans on T-Mobile’s network (which merged into the old Sprint network). On Boost Mobile, the Sprint network is called the Nationwide Network. The T-Mobile network is called the Expanded Network. Boost Mobile offers four plans that offer multi-line savings on its Nationwide Network. For $35 per month, you can get 6GB data for a "Walmart Customer Exclusive", which gives you 3GB and allows you to save an additional $35. Below is a comparison of each of Boost’s Nationwide plans.

The Expanded Network plan from Boost Mobile offers a little more flexibility. It starts at 1GB data for $10 per monthly and goes up to 35GB for $50 or $60 per mois depending on how many hotspot data you need. Shrink-It is also available on this network. The Shrink-It! plan discount starts at $45 per monthly with 15GB data, but drops to $35 per month after six on time payments. Affordable Family plans are also available. They offer 12GB of high speed data per line, before things slow down, and cost $80 each for two lines.

The two largest unlimited plans from Boost offer 35GB high-speed data. The $50 plan includes 12GB mobile hotspot data as well as SD streaming. The $60 plan adds HD streaming and mobile hotspot data up to 30GB. This unlimited plan is great because you can add another line for $20 cheaper than the first ($40/month). The good news about this network is that almost all plans will allow you to access 5G, provided you have a compatible device.

Mint Mobile vs. Boost Mobile - Which phones are available and which phones are compatible?

Source: Samuel Contreras / Android Central

Mint Mobile and Boost Mobile both support 5G on T-Mobile's network for free if you own a compatible device. If you are looking for a phone that will work with all carriers, these phones are the best Boost Mobile phones. If you prefer to use your own device with Boost Mobile, make sure it is compatible with your network.

Although Boost Mobile is based on the old Sprint network, it should technically work with Sprint phones. However, not all Sprint phones can be activated by Boost Mobile. You will need a compatible Boost Mobile smartphone. However, it is easiest to verify your IMEI number by visiting Boost's website. Boost's Expanded Network should work with most unlocked phones, but it is still a good idea.

Mint Mobile is clearly ahead of Boost in terms of supported phones. It works with almost any unlocked phone that supports T-Mobile's GSM networks because it uses T-Mobile’s GSM network. You shouldn't have any issues as long as your phone supports 4G LTE or VoLTE. However, Mint Mobile allows you to quickly check if your phone is compatible by visiting its website and downloading its app. If you don't need a new phone, it is much easier and more affordable to switch to Mint Mobile.

Mint Mobile vs. Boost Mobile - International usage

Source: Boost Mobile

Mint Mobile doesn't offer international roaming. You can call Mexico and Canada free of charge, but you will need to buy international roaming credits through "UpRoam" for $5, $10, or $20 increments. Mint Mobile charges $0.05 per text message, $0.25 per minute to call, and $0.20 for megabytes in most international countries. However, prices in Mexico and Canada are lower at $0.02 per SMS, $0.06 per min, and $0.06 respectively.

Boost Mobile offers international plans in the Todo Mexico PLUS Plan for $5 per month. This includes texting and calling to Mexico as well as 8GB data while you are visiting Mexico. You can also call or text any Canadian person. International Connect PLUS offers all of this and more, with unlimited calling to landlines across 70 countries as well as 200 minutes per month for mobile lines. All for $10 per monthly. Boost Mobile plans are ideal for travelers and family members who travel internationally.
